MP Parm Gill Officially Launches the Healthy Community Challenge
January 19, 2012

Brampton-Springdale, Ontario – On a day that most people would be settling into their morning routine, Parm Gill and his staff were kicking off the Healthy Community Challenge in Brampton-Springdale. This initiative was launched to inspire communities to pursue personal goals that revolve around healthy lifestyle choices. It also provides support from others around you.

“My personal goal is to lose 15-pounds in three months,” said Parm Gill, Member of Parliament for Brampton-Springdale. “Others in our offices are seeking to eat healthier, continue to go to the gym and to minimize caffeine intake. We are coming together to support each other in these aspirations and hope the community joins our challenge as well.”

Health, wellness and physical activity are very important topics in our community. We all strive to be healthier versions of ourselves – a goal that is sometimes difficult to achieve. Proper eating, exercise and healthy routines are also important lifestyle choices that we as a community need to pass along to our youth.

There are three main reasons that this initiative has been undertaken. First, there is a desire to bring a community together in support of each other’s goals. This type of network can help each of us through challenging parts of our journey. Secondly, there is a need for our community to become role models for our youth. Their health and wellness is a fundamental part of their development. Finally, this challenge is an exciting way to make a difference in the lives of those around you, as well as your own.

“This initiative is challenging everyone to set one goal that can make their lives healthier. It doesn’t have to be drastic as the smallest change can yield immense benefits,” said Parm Gill. “We encourage everyone to sign up, share their goals, their timelines and how they plan on achieving it. This engagement with other community members will provide a support base and a network of that we can learn from. Most importantly, it is a way to take our communities in a healthier direction.”
